'We are Phone Calls From Home. We play music with the intention of helping people. We have found that a lot of bands have hopes of being rich and famous, or hope that they can play their instrument as a career. We have higher hopes than that. We want to use any fame or success we get to influence people in a positive way. Teens today have a hard time growing up. They struggle with boredom, depression, peer pressure, their parents, and themselves. They look for happiness in any outlet they can find and try too hard to fit in. We want to make it easier for them by giving them someone they can relate to and understand. Through our music, our advice, and our lives, we want to teach our fans to be happier and help them find more purpose in life.'

So, I’m about to pull on some heartstrings. The guy in this picture is Dave Place, lead singer of the band Phone Calls From Home. I had the privilege to meet him and the band, and take pictures of them during a show on August 8th.
He looks happy in this picture, right? Yeah, of course he does, he’s smiling. Well, guess what? He wasn’t…
His dad passed away on Friday, August 3rd in his sleep. It was totally unexpected. But still, only five days after hearing that his dad had passed, Dave still came to Maine and played an unbelievable show, saying that his dad would have wanted him to.
I guess what I’m trying to say here is this: don’t let people’s physical appearance fool you. You never know what is going on inside. I’ve seen this happen to far too many people, and it’s actually really sad. They could seem like the happiest person in the world, but inside they might be feeling worse than they ever have. Always be thinking about what the person could be going through behind their smile, and say a little prayer for them. We were created to care for each other, and this is a great way to do so.
Dave is doing well, from what I know, and I’m staying in touch with him as often as I can. Say a prayer for Dave and his family before you go to sleep tonight; I know for sure that every prayer means a lot to them. Also, check out Dave’s blog here -> http://thisisdaveplace.com/ - it will more than likely encourage you quite a lot.
Thank you, Dave, for showing crazy strength and being an encouragement to everyone who met you last week. <3
